Wystawa „Atencja” to zogniskowanie uwagi odbiorcy na linii i module wzoru powstającego podczas procesu tkania. Technika ta wymaga bowiem skupienia, scentralizowania uwagi na każdej nitce osnowy, by wzór wytkany był zgodnie z pierwotnym zamysłem. Atencja jest również próbą skonfrontowania dawnych technik rękodzielniczych z nowoczesnymi technikami cyfrowymi. To właśnie krosna stały się podstawą do skonstruowania przez Josepha Jacquarda maszyny żakardowej, która stała się prototypem komputera. Wzornik oraz mapping i kasetony świetlne będące częściami projektu Atencja nawiązują do procesu ewolucji techniki. Do pracy na zautomatyzowanym krośnie żakardowym nawiązują odtwarzające się wiersz po wierszu zapisane kodem moduły wzorów. Ażurowe fronty kasetonów świetlnych odnoszą się do projektów na kratownicach będących podstawą do wytkania pereborów, jak też kart perforowanych będących pierwowzorem pamięci w sterowaniu maszyną żakardową. Projekt wybiega również w przyszłość konfrontując sztukę ze sztuczną inteligencją. Sztuczna inteligencja dzięki technikom głębokiego uczenia maszynowego tworzy nowe perebory (perebor to lubelski ornament tkacki zwany potocznie haftem tkackim) na podstawie danych jej na wejściu istniejących wzorów.

TRYPUZ Monika – urodzona w 1981 roku w Chełmie. Jest absolwentką warszawskiej ASP. Dyplom z wyróżnieniem rektorskim uzyskała w dwóch specjalnościach: Grafika Warsztatowa pod kierunkiem prof. Rafała Kochańskiego i Ilustracja i Grafika Wydawnicza pod kierunkiem prof. Błażeja Ostoi Lniskiego. Od 2005 roku magister Matematyki (KUL w Lublinie). Graficzka, ilustratorka, projektantka autorskich książek („Jeżowierze”, „Rocznik wsi”) współpracująca z wydawnictwami i instytucjami kultury. Ostatnie jej zainteresowania skupiły się wokół polskiej kultury ludowej i rękodzieła. Efektem tych zainteresowań jest projekt „Atencja” poświęcony pereborom – lubelskim ornamentom tkackim, a także stworzona przez artystkę marka How I wykorzystująca twórczo rozwinięty perebor w celu kreacji istotnych znaczeniowo i kulturowo ubrań.

The aim of the project “Atencja” [attention] is to focus the attention of the recipient on the lines and modules appearing in the process of weaving a pattern. Obtaining the intended design using this technique requires concentration and close watching of every warp and woof thread. “Atencja” also attempts to juxtapose old handcraft techniques with modern, digital technology: traditional looms were, therefore, the basis for Joseph Jacquard’s invention of the automated loom, which is considered to be the predecessor of today’s computers. “Atencja”, which consists of a sampler, 3D mapping, and lighting coffers, is also a comment on the development of technology. Coded modules displayed line by line are a reference made to the work on a Jacquard loom. The openwork structure of lighting coffers is a reference to the grids used in drafting perebor designs; it is also a reference to punch cards – predecessors of computer memory – used in controlling the Jacquard loom. At the same time, the project takes a step into the future by bringing together the realms of art and artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence, in the process of machine deep learning techniques, basing on provided, already existing perebor designs, learns to create its own and completely new patterns.

Monika TRYPUZ was born in 1981 in Chełm. She is an alumnus the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. She graduated with Rector’s distinction in two specialisations: Printmaking under the direction of prof. Rafał Kochański and Illustration and Publishing Graphics under the supervision of Prof. Błażej Ostoja Lniski. In 2005 she got an M.A. in Mathematics (Catholic University of Lublin). Graphic designer, illustrator, collaborating with various publishing houses and cultural institutions. In recent years, Trypuz’s interests focused on Polish folk culture and handcrafts. The above resulted in the release of her book Rocznik wsi [A year in the life of a village] depicting the lesser-known or forgotten traditions and customs celebrated in the countryside throughout the year, and an art project “Atencja” [attention] devoted to perebory – ornaments woven on hand looms in the Lublin region in eastern Poland. Trypuz also created her own fashion brand How I, in which she used her creatively developed perebor patterns to create meaningful, culturally relevant clothes.
